How to remove the drum of Maytag (including Atlantis) brand dryers :

Removing and replacing the drum of Maytag (including Atlantis) models
Note:
Disconnect the power source to your dryer before you begin to remove the drum. Either unplug the unit from the wall outlet, remove the appropriate fuse from the fuse box, or flip the appropriate breaker in the circuit breaker panel.

First, release the belt tension inside the unit. You can access the belt by opening up the inspection panel found on the back of the machine. For these machines, two different types of cabinets are used. There are older style cabinets, and newer style cabinets. The older style cabinets are fairly straight forward. We will look at them first.

Two screws are located at the bottom of the older cabinet's front. One in either corner. Remove both screws and then lift the panel until the clips that are found at the top of the panel disengage. Disconnect the door switch and any other wiring, taking careful note of which wires are to be reconnected where. With the front panel removed, you will notice two screws inside the cabinet, just below the cabinet top, in each corner. Remove each screw and lift the cabinet top.

Removing the newer style cabinets for these machines, the ones with the wrap-around doors, can be a little tricky. Open the door of the dryer. Remove each of the four screws you find on the inside. There are clips holding the front panel to the dryer unit. In order to disengage these clips and release the front panel, the top corners of the front panel each have to be "rolled" outwards. With the clips disengaged, tilt the front panel forward and lift it up to remove it.

You can now remove the dryer's door and cabinet top. Lift the door off its hinges and jiggle it out of its slots. To remove the cabinet top, slide it forward and lift it up.

Now, to remove the drum, remove the four mounting screws found at the front of the bulkhead. Hold the drum in place and lift out the bulkhead. Set it aside. You are now able to lift out the drum.

To replace your drum, simply reverse the removal process. Reassemble the unit and restore power to your dryer.
