How to remove (and replace) the drum of Maytag - performa - brand dryers :

Removing and replacing the drum of Maytag (Performa) models
Note:
Disconnect the power source to your dryer before you begin this procedure. Either unplug the unit from the wall outlet, remove the appropriate fuse from the fuse box, or flip the appropriate breaker in the circuit breaker panel.

Opening the cabinet of these machines begins with the cabinet top. There are two spring catches located just below the cabinet top that secure it to the rest of the unit. These catches are located towards each side edge. Use a putty knife (or some other thin and flat object) to slide in under the cabinet top to disengage each of the clips. You can now lift up the cabinet top.

With the cabinet top lifted, you will see two screws located inside the top of the cabinet front. Remove each of these screws and lift the front panel to disengage the two clips found at the bottom. As you remove the front panel, disconnect the door switch and any other wiring, taking careful note of which wires are to be reconnected where.

With this dryer's cabinet opened up, simply release the tension on the belt. The drum will lift out.

To replace your drum, simply reverse the removal process. Reassemble the unit and restore power to your dryer.
