The idler pulley helps maintain the proper amount of tension on the drive belt to turn the drum. The idler pulley is located between the motor pulley and drum to provide tension on the belt. If the part has become worn, it could cause the dryer to be noisy or squeaky, and the pulley will need to be replaced.
